Samuel Mims

Samuel Mims's home and outbuildings were the foundation for Fort Mims, Baldwin Co, AL. He and his brother David were killed during the Creek massacre there at the Fort. [See David's notes] The Site is now a National Historic Site - a Military Park of the State of Alabama.

An article from Harper's, Vol. 28, which can be found on Google Books, says this about Fort Mims. ...constructing a strong stockade around the house of Samuel Mims, an old and wealthy inhabitant of that region, situated a short distance from the Boat Yard on Tensaw Lake, a mile east from the Alabama River.

A son Samuel apparently survived and later moved to Texas.
There is a marker in Montgomery Hill Cemetery, Baldwin Co, AL:

Died September 13th 1843
