Francis Jones, father of Lydia Jones, died in Edgecombe by Aug. of 1755. He mentioned thirteen children in his will, but the order of their birth is not certain according to North Carolina Colonial Records, vol. 4, p. 710. His wife Mary Tignal was born ABT 1703, and married ABT 1720. If Mary Tignal had her first child in 1721 at age 18, her last child would have been born in 1745 at age 42, this appears to be a reasonable spread for childbearing years. This would indicate that Lydia could have been born anywhere from 1721 to 1745.

The Jones family came from Virginia, and settled in NC on Crab Tree Creek, 12 miles from present day Raleigh, NC. He owned land on Swift Creek in Johnston Co., Jacket Swamp in Edgecombe Co., and Crabtree Creek in Wake Co., NC. It is believed that Albridgton and Mary lived in that part of Edgecombe Co. that later became Halifax Co. Mary Ridley was the third child of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Day) Ridley, born abt 1706. She married Francis Jones. He was a nephew of her stepfather, Matthew Jones. Francis and Mary (Ridley) Jones lived on a 200 acre plantation acquired from Nathaniel Jones on the N. side of the W. prong of the Cypress Swamp in Nottaway Parish, Isle of Wight Co., VA. They sold the land in 1740 and moved to Edgecombe Co., NC where he received a land grant in 1744. Francis Jones died in Edgecombe by Aug. of 1755.
