Character actress Sara Haden was born Katherine Haden in Galveston, Texas, November 17, 1898. She was the second child of Dr. John Brannum Haden and actress Charlotte Walker. Katherine’s sister Beatrice was born a year ahead of her in New York.
...The Hadens divorced in 1902 and daughters Beatrice and Katherine would grow up splitting time between Galveston and the northern cities that their mother toured. In the north Katherine is said to have made her stage debut as a child in one of Walker’s shows at the Belasco Theatre in Washington
...Haden debuted as Aunt Milly Forrest in A Family Affair (1937), the first of her fourteen appearances in MGM’s series of Hardy family films.
...Sara Haden died of an undisclosed illness September 15, 1981 at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. She had been married to actor Richard Abbott from 1921 through 1948 but the couple never had any children.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21— Sara Haden, who played crotchety characters during her Hollywood career, died last Tuesday at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills. She was 82 years old.
Miss Haden played the grouch through 15 roles in a two-year period in the 30's. She was born in Galveston, Tex., the daughter of Charlotte Walker, a silent-screen actress, an d began her career in 1934, playing an office girl in ''Spitfire,'' the first of her 70 movies.
One of her roles was Mickey Rooney's spinster Aunt Milly in the Andy Hardy series. She was in all but two Hardy films, and her last role was in ''Andy Hardy Comes Home'' in 1958.
Miss Haden once complained that children, having seen the Shirley Temple's ''Captain January,'' shunned her because her character was so crabby to the child performer.
''Even my own nephew looks at me with baleful eyes,'' she said. Among her other credits were ''Music in the Air,'' ''Poor Little Rich Girl,'' ''Boom Town'' and ''A Lion Is in the Streets.''

Actor Richard Abbott was born as Simon Vandenberg, 22 May 1899 in Antwerp, Belgium; died Jun 1986 in New York City. He is buried in the Actors' Fund Section of Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, Westchester Co., NY.
