His birth certificate looks more like Mancel Richard Haden. He was born in Houston; the family lived at 109 York St. His father, Hopkins Henry Haden, was 43, b. Cedar Bayou, TX, a pilot (boat) and his mother was Annie Lauie Matthews, age 36, b. Cedar Bayou, TX. He was the 4th child.

Mansel was lost at sea during World War II; he was on a coast guard vessel that sank. He is buried in the family plot at LaMarque, TX [note: probably a memorial - I'm not sure the bodied was ever recovered]

An Ancestry.com database for Veterans state that he is listed on a monument in Battery Park, New York City.
