John Hugh Jones died 13 Jan 1935 at St. Edwards Hospital, Ft. Smith, Upper Twp, Sebastian Co of shock and contusion of chest and abdomen after being struck by an automobile. His residence was 101 Garrison Ave, Ft. Smith. Born 30 Aug 1859 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the son of Jacob C. Jones, born in Wales. Mother's maiden name was Williams - also born in Wales. He was married to Bertha Jones who was the informant. Buried Forest Park Cemetery, Ft Smith, Jan 15th.

Emporia, Kan., Loses One of its Oldest and Most Esteemed Citizens.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Jones have returned to Fort Smith from Emporia, Kansas, to which city they were called by the illness and demise of Mr. Jones' father, Jacob O. Jones, one of Emporia's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens.
The deceased was born in Anglesea, England, Oct 27th, 1832 and 19 years old came to the United States and thereafter located in Madison, Wis., and in 1853 constructed the first stone building erected at Fort Madison, Iowa.
Nov. 7, 1855, he wedded Miss Anna Williams of Genesee, Wis., who survives him and at the age of 82 years is still hale and hearty.
In 1877 Mr. Jones located at Reading & Arvonia, Kansas, where he engaged extensively in stock raising and practical farming, developing a highly remunerative business and owning a vast amount of rich farm land.
Thirty years ago they moved to Emporia, although until 1901 he maintained his farm and cattle interest. He became a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and for many years was an elder. He was a keen Bible student, and the family home on Walnut Street was the popular assembling place of the college faculty and many of the students.
Two sons, J. H. Jones of Fort Smith, and O. R. Jones of Chicago, and a daughter Mrs. Anna Rowlands of Lawrence, Kansas, survive him. The burial was made at Maple Wood Cemetery....
