Francis Ashley

(1808 - )

Francis was mentioned first in his father's bequests. I believe that has led many to think he was the eldest son. However, he was giving him a horse as you would give a young son reaching manhood and when all the children are listed as share and share alike he was the last named. I believe most of the dates regarding the children are from the LDS Ancestral File.

Francis and his mother Polly, bought most of the items at the estate sale of his father in 1828, Warren Co, TN. Polly bought the land. However, I cannot find either of them in the 1830 census which is very poorly indexed, but has 158 images. I have even searched on the given names, Polly, Mary, Francis, Frances, and Frank.

I found a Francis Ashley living in Mecklenberg, NC in 1850, that may indeed be Francis. If so, he was one of the younger children, born about 1850. Or it could simply be another relative who remained back in North Carolina.
