Appointed Administrator of his mother's estate, 6 Jan 1854. He immediately began trying to claim back pension he said she was due. She had died intestate in Tennessee in 1846; he lived in Alabama. I suspect he had himself named administrator in order to attempt to make this claim. The claim was rejected.
