Databases online give his birth year as 1867 - I believe that to be wrong. In 1870, he was listed as 11 months old, born in September [presumably of 1869]. The census is dated 17 Aug 1870. The infant's name was John B. in 1870; the child was John W. in 1880, and listed as 10 years old.


The database says this is the eldest son ....I'm not sure, the age isn't quite right and the parents should have had Kentucky for their birth places.... And I don't know how he got to be "Fred".
