Benjamin James "Jerry" Haden
(10 Sep 1839 - 6 Oct 1922)
Benjamin and Susie were 1st cousins once removed.
Joined a volunteer regiment of Virginia cavalry in Augusta County, first commanded by Col (later General) J. E. B. Stuart. Served continuously with the 1st Virginia Cavalry until Appomattox in April 1865. I have a copy of "Reminiscences of J. E. B. Stuart's Cavalry" by Sgt B. J. Haden, edited by Timoth A. Parish and published in The Bulletin of the Fluvanna County Historical Society, No. 55, Spring 1993.

Benjamin had nine children by his first wife (actually there were ten children), four more daughters by his second wife. He began receiving his veteran's pension in 1907.

Charlottesville, Oct. 11.
News has been received here of the death at his home at Union Mills, Fluvanna County, of B. J. Haden, a Confederate veteran, at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife and eight children.

DEATH OF VETERAN
Mr. B. J. Haden, of Union Mills, died last Thursday at his home and was buried at Cunningham church, Friday. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Frank Burruss of Palmyra. Mr. Haden was eighty-three years of age and a Confederate veteran. He is survived by his wife and the following children: V. B. Haden of this city; A. W. Haden of Antioch; B. J. Haden Jr. of Palmyra; R. H. Haden of Union Mills; Mrs. Charles B. Haden of Palmyra; Velma Haden, Vivian Haden and Ursula Haden, of Union Mills.
Mr. Haden was a first cousin of Mr. E. G. Haden, of this city.
Buried in the cemetery of Cunningham United Methodist Church.
