DISCUSS VIRGINIA CHARITIES.
Delegates Hear Miss Lattimore of Russell Sage Foundation.

Charlottesville, Va., April 5. - The eighth annual meeting of the Virginia Conference of Charities and Correction was called to order at 8 o'clock tonight, at the Levy Opera House, with the president, the Rev. J. T. MASTIN, of Richmond, in the chair. Mayor E. G. HADEN delivered a brief address of welcome, to which response was made by the Rev. Dr. George W. McDANIEL, of Richmond.
The Rev. C. L. CORBITT; superintendent of the Baptist Orphanage, at Salem, told of the difficulties, and the hopeful aspects of the care and training of destitute children. The subject further was discussed by Miss Florence L. LATTIMORE, assistant director of the Russell Sage Foundation, New York.

E. Haden Dies in 80th Year; Twice a Mayor.
Former Charlottesville Executive Succumbs After a Short Sickness
Charlottesville, Feb. 28
Elbridge G. Haden, the mayor of Charlottesville and successful retired real estate man, died at 2 o'clock this after noon at his home on Park Street after a short illness. He was in his eightieth year.
Mr. Haden was born in Fluvanna County on September 7, 1953, the son of Colonel William D. and Elizabeth Haden. After their death, he moved to Campbell County where he was a magistrate and county supervisor during his five years residence.
He came to Charlottesville in 1895, where he entered real estate operations. He also acted as a justice of the peace. In 1908 he was elected mayor of the city for a four-year term, being elected for another such term in 1916.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and an Odd Fellow
Two sons, Dr. William Dandridge Haden, member of the city Council and leading physician, and Abner E. Haden, also of this City, survive with two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Haden of Charlottesville and Mrs. B. J. Scruggs of near Pantops.

Buried Maplewood Cemetery, Charlottesville, Virginia, with wife Martha.
