Archibald married Elizabeth Beggs, ca 1755, probably Augusta Co, VA. She was born in New Jersey, ca 1735, died Shenandoah Co, VA, Sept 1792.

Archibald moved with the rest of the family to Shenandoah Co. In 1750, he was granted 200 acres adjacent his father and brother Cornelius. He sold this land to Burr Harrison in 1752. On 31 May 1749, he was issued a warrant to survey 406 acres on Holman's Creek, about 3 miles west of Smith's Creek. This property was sold to his brother Stephen in 1751. 3 Mar 1763, Archibald's brother Isaac deed ed him 140 acres in Frederick Co on the south side of the North Fork of the Shenandoah - land granted Isaac by Lord Fairfax, 2 Aug 1750. Archibald added another 132 adjacent acres in 1779.

Archibald served in the Frederick Co, Virginia Militia as ensign 1753 and Lieutenant in 1757.

Archibald's will was dated 20 May 1786, probated 27 Sep 1787. He gave land to his four surviving sons. John, his eldest, died about 1781, apparently without heirs, and his claim to land in Kentucky reverted to his father. In the will he gave sons James & Isaac, all his lands in Kentucky to be divided between them. The two younger sons, Archibald Jr. and George, received equal portions of the home plantation. His wife Elizabeth received the customary one-third. Elizabeth and son James were executors. James took possession of the Kentucky inheritance, but Isaac appears on tax rolls with his mother after 1787 and assumed his mother's role as executor of the estate of Archibald when she died in 1792.
