Robert seems to have given away his share of his father's estate. These gifts follow an account of payments to the legatees of Robert Burton, dec'd.

Robert had reached his majority by 1800, as he had no need of a guardian since he could deed property. Even as early as 1792, his stepfather was not serving as a guardian, but there is one document that suggests Spillsby Coleman was his guardian in 1793.
