Isham is said to have died in Lamar Co, TX. I doubt it. It is true that his eldest son William J. West was buried in Lamar Co in 1872. However, I did not find him in the Lamar Co. 1870 census. Isham J., had a son, Emment, born in Texas about 1868, but his family was back in Dade Co for the 1870 census. Son Bailey is said to have died in Lamar Co, but his widow was living in Dade Co in 1870 - all their children born in Missouri prior to 1863. Isham is in Dade Co from the 1850 census through the 1880 census. So there is evidence that at least some of the family went to Texas although they seem not to have remained there.

I strongly suspect that Isham had a brother, William J. West, whose wife Willey was likely a sister to Isham's wife Alzada Perry, given the names found among their children, their common places of birth and residence. Found on the same page in the 1850 Dade Co MO census with Mahala, Isham's married daughter is:
William Y. West, age 43, b. TN [in 1860, he will state that he was born in KY, as was Isham.
Willey, age 39, b. TN [as was Alzada, wife of Isham]
Children born in TN; Amanda 19, Maryann 17, William 15, Alzada 14, Elizabeth 13, Liberty 11, and Sarah age 9. [Isham's last child born in Tennessee was also age 9 - probably moved to MO together.]
Children born in MO: Kinchen age 8 [Alzada's father was Kinchen Perry], Cassy age 6, Cooper age 4, Jessie age 3, John age 2, and Milly age 7 months.
In 1860, William Y. West was two households away from Isham & Alzada. He gave his age as 52, Willey was 47. Sarah, age 20, said to be born in Missouri as were the rest of the children. Kinchen P. age 18. Cooper D. 14. Jesse C. 13. John B. 12. Christina J. age 11 [apparently "Milly was was 7 months old in 1850 had her name changed - presumably she has become Christina]. Louisa T. age 10. Jeptha J. age 5 [Isham also had a son named Jeptha.]

In 1830, both a William West and "Isom" West were living in Hickman Co, TN
Isom had one child under 5 [William] and was age 20-30. 2 daughters [Mahala & Dolly] under age 5, and spouse [ Alzada], age 20-30.
William West has age 15-20. One female under age 5, and one age 20-30.

One online database suggests possible parents for these men as Jeptha West, born 1778, Onslow, NC, and his wife Millie Gentry. Was Millie Gentry connected in some way to the Nancy Gentry Anderson, mother of the wife [Sarah Jane Anderson] of Zadock Wright Poindexter who their descendants claimed was of "Indian blood". Millie is seen online with an Indian name, but no real explanation. Nancy Gentry seems to have been the daughter of a Samuel of Surry Co NC and it's doubtful she was Indian at all.
