Sim was married (1) to Martha M. Hall, 6 Jan 1870 in Jackson Co MO. She died 1 Jul 1878 and he married (2) to Margaret Angelina Arnold, 26 Feb 1880, Cass Co, MO.

Sim rode with Quantrill's Raiders; he was friend of the Youngers and the James brothers. He was one of Bob Younger's pall bearers, 20 Sep 1889 at Lee's Summit, MO. And served again at the funeral of Jim Younger, 22 Oct 1902. He was named as a childhood friend of the Youngers.

Sim Whitsett was with Quantrill in Bonham, TX, in 1864. Hade Whitsett, son of Dr. William C. Whitsett, told his family about meeting "cousin" Sim. I doubt that they could possibly have known they were really very distant cousins. Best case they were 3rd cousins, once removed.
