Joseph Woodson Jr.

(Abt 1715 - 1783)

Joseph and Elizabeth said to be first cousins.

There are disagreements among the Woodson genealogies concerning the Joseph Woodsons. Some genealogies place the children of Joseph and Elizabeth Parsons with an earlier Joseph who married Elizabeth Maddox. Others believe that this earlier Joseph, born maybe 1685, was the father of Joseph, born about 1715 who married Elizabeth Parsons, and the grandfather of Joseph Woodson of Genitoe. Actually this works the best with known marriages, etc.

Joseph Woodson's will was dated 2 Oct 1782.
Joseph Woodson late of Geneto Creek in Goochland did by his last will & testament dated 2 Oct 1782, after other gifts & legacies did bequeath unto his daughters then living all the residue of his Estate not before given which included all his real Estate consisting of 325 acres of land on said Creek . We the daughters of said Joseph Woodson, together with our husbands being sensible that our deceased Father intend his real estate should descend to his son & heir Joseph Woodson, all of which appears on ___ to use by his bequeathing to him a very small proportion of his other Estate and that the will was defective in that respect, the default in the writer and not from any intention in him. For 5sh we, Jonathan Knight & Judith of Granville, NC; Archer Pledge & Anna his wife of Goochland, John Redford & Ursula his wife of Henrico Co, Pleasant Turner & Agatha his wife of Halifax and Perrin Redford & Susanna his wife of Goochland, Thomas Woodson & Mary his wife of Goochland. Here is one version of the children of Joseph and Elizabeth Mattox - however - they appear instead to be the children of Joseph and Elizabeth Parsons and the grandchildren of Joseph who married Elizabeth Maddox.
