Mrs. Martha Jane Avery, wife of Jas. Avery died at her late home in Camden township on Wesnesday, May 15, 1907, after an illness of only a few days, heart failure being the cause of death. The footprints of death had scarcely been erased from this home until the news flashed over the wires that the cruel monster had again entered the sacred precincts of the same house and claimed another victim, the beloved wife and mother - the aged father having just gone before [James's father, Philander Avery, had died on May 9th]
Mrs. Avery was the first born daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Dixon which event occurred Sept 23, 1847 in Brown Co, Illinois.
She leaves the aged mother and several brothers and sisters, beside husband and son to mourn her departure. Mrs. Avery was esteemed and beloved by all who knew here - kind, tender, merciful and true was her happy disposition. She was united in marriage to James Avery Feb. 25, 1868. To this union was born one son, Lafayette, who was at the home most of the time during her sickness. She was converted and joined the Christian church when a young woman.

We miss thee from our home, dear mother,
We miss thee from thy place;
A shadow o'er our home is cast.
We miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care;
Our home is dark without thee,
We miss thee everywhere
CARD OF THANKS. We desire to express our gratitude to our neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in caring for our beloved wife and aged father during their last illness. Jas. Avery.
