Mary [Proctor]

( - )

George was married twice, first to Katherine Frank (marriage record for 1694), and secondly to a Mary, who is named in the will and was identified as an executor of the will in 1738. Mary is also mentioned in a 1729 land transaction, acknowledging her dower rights; therefore, she and George were married by that date.

Mary relinquished dower in only one of the transcripts of deeds from Spotsylvania Co in 1729. Perhaps she was not the mother of the children. She is named as George Proctor's wife in his will dated in early 1731.

Early American History: Hume and Allied Families, states on p.46 that "On February 16, 1727, George Hume married Elizabeth Procter, daughter of George Procter and his wife Mary. This is shown by the Governor's order book of Spotsylvania Co."
