Individual Details

There is some confusion over Ruth's surname. Her son George, in a bio many years later, gave her name as Ruth Sayles. Some databases have Ruth Rich, some have Ruth Rich Sayles. Middle names were uncommon in this time frame. Was she a young widow when she married Comstock? John's brother Wanton was married to Elizabeth Sayles. Were the ladies related?

After the death of John Comstock, Ruth remarried.
1818, Jul 29 Mr. John Haskill of Dudley, commonwealth of Massachusetts married “Miss Comstock” of Woodstock. Sam’ll Backus, minister. I believe this to be John’s Widow, Ruth Rich/Sayles, as the Comstock book states that his widow Ruth married John Haskell of Dudley, MA after this death. “Miss” and “Mrs” often difficult to distinguish in old documents.
