The relationship of John "Richland" Lea to John Lea Senr and William Lea who were apparently father and son is not know, but DNA studies suggest a very close relationship. John "Richland" and John Lea Senr, "Halifax" were probably contemporaries - but not likely brothers since they had the same name.

5 Aug 1782, Edmund Lea noted and administrator of the will, conveyed to John Lea, Sen, 1/2 of a tract on Bear Branch adj William Lea; 126 acres as set forth by old plan made by John Lea. Caswell DB E, p.34.

A 1784 tax list for Caswell shows William Lea as owning taxes on 126 acres, and John Lea, recorded next, owing for 126 acres.

Caswell DB C, p.158, recorded 30 Sep 1785. Edmund Lea sold to William Lea, son of John Lea of Caswell for 100£, 126 acres south side Bear Branch, corner James Sergents.
