I believe James may have had a brother living in Grainger Co found in 1850 as Isaac B. Dyer, age 60, born VA - his wife was Rachel, age 50, b. TN.

Pittsylvania Co VA DB 11, p.177. James Dyer Sr. sold to James Turley Sr, 206 acres of land; John Ball's corner, branches Tomahawk Crk. Believed to have left Virginia about 1799 for Tennessee. Was a Blacksmith. There is a Dyer family file at the Chickamauga Battlefield Museum in Chickamauga, GA, according to online accounts.

James married 11 Oct 1802 to Elizabeth Garroth in Grainger Co, Tennessee. Frederick Moyers, Bondsman. Second wife was Emeline Temperance, surname unknown.
