Joshua Porter
(26 Jun 1730 - 2 Apr 1825)
Joshua married Abigail Buell who was his first cousin once removed. (found marriage date in Bucks of Wethersfield, Conn, p.143 - Google Books) They settled in Salisbury, LItchfield Co, CT where he was elected to the state legislature for over 40 sessions. He was a judge of common pleas for 13 years and judge of probate for 37 years. During the Revolution, Joshua was Col. of the 14th CT Regt and fought at White Plains, Monmouth, Long Island, Saratoga. He was superintendent of the Iron Works at Salisbury which was engaged in the manufacture of cannon for the armny of the Revolution.
Joshua married as his second wife, Jerusha Burr, daughter of Col. Burr of Fairfield Ct. Jerusha died about 1808. He married (3) in 1808 to Lucy Ashley, daughter of Col. John Ashley of Sheffield, MA. There was no issue from the two latter marriages.
Joshua is buried Town Hill Cemetery, Salisbury, Litchfield Co, CT.
