Hezekiah Porter, Sr. was the son of Samuel and Hannah (Stanley) Porter. His father Samuel was an original proprietor of Hadley, MA, relocating there from Windsor, CT. Hezekiah, Sr. was the grandson of John and Anna (White) Porter of Ancient Windsor who emigrated from Felsted, Essex, England to the Colony of Connecticut in 1638.
Although I have been unable to find his gravestone, the inscription is included in the Hale Collection, therefore we know that it once stood in Center Cemetery in what is now East Hartford, CT.
Hezekiah, Sr. was married three times to: (1) Hannah Cowles, (2) Hannah Merrifield, and (3) the Widow Esther (Dickinson) Smith. He fathered 13 children, 7 by his first wife and 6 by his second wife.
Children of Hezekiah Porter, Sr. known to be buried in Center Cemetery are: Hezekiah, Jr., Timothy, James, Joseph, David, Sr., and daughter Sarah (Porter) Smith, the wife of Gideon.
