Alexander McGregor Comstock

(9 Sep 1788 - 9 Jul 1854)

Alexander married (1) Olive Smith and (2) Esther (Saltmarsh) Boardman. He was an Assistant Surgeon, War of 1812, on the Niagara Frontier. He was a physician, Methodist minister and a farmer. His children were born in Hector, Tompkins Co, NY. He is said to have died of cholera.

Malcomson, Robert. A VERY BRILLIANT AFFAIR: The Battle of Queenston Heights, 1812. Listed as the Surgeon's Mate of the 19th Regt of Detached Militia, Alex Comstock. [He wasn't indexed, I just happened on his name in an Appendix.] He was not taken prisoner and likely did not take part in the battle - only about 700 of the 3000 militia troops camped at the site actually ever crossed the Niagara River that day of Battle, 13 Oct 1812. The 19th Regt was part of Brig. Gen. William Wadsworth's 7th Brigade; the Detached Militia having been formed out of the regular militia troops earlier that year.
