Thomas Burgess

( - By Oct 1792)

Jun 1736 Orange Co VA Edward Burgess, orphan, was bound to Thomas Burgess to learn the trado of carpenter. At the same court session, appraisers were appointed for the estate of Charles Burgess who had died 20 May 1735. [relationships unknown]

4 Jun 1735 Thomas Burgess bought land in Orange Co from James Fidler. It was 100 acres, part of 1000 acres granted Thomas Cook 28 Sep 1728 and was in St. Marks Parish of Orange Co.
This tract was sold 29 Mar 1749 to Margaret Tilly. Mary, wife of Thomas relinquished dower.

23 Oct 1760 Thomas Burgess of St. Thomas Parish, Orang Co sold 333 acres lying on branches of the Pamunkey River, land were Timothy Burgess lately lived and purchased of William Pratt, 26 Mar 1747, and another 200 acres, one half o 400 acres purchased of Daniel White by deed 25 Sep 1746. Both tracts were sold to Timothy Burgess for natural love and fatherly affection.

31 Aug 1765 Thomas Burgess of Orange Co sold 123 acres where he was living, slave, livestock, furniture and tools to Andrew Shepherd. This may very well have been a mortgage deed. But Thomas probably left Orange Co about this time and he may have been selling all extra household goods.

7 Feb 1769 John Kearby of Halifax sold 500 on branches of Winns Creek adjoining the county line to Thomas Burgess. [This would have been very close to Henry Hardins land on Winns Creek - the families and their children probably became acquainted about this time.]
