Grissel Johnson

Dr. Peter Hay presented a petition to the House of Burgesses on behalf of himself, Philip Johnson, and Oriana Littlepage for compensation for a negro slave belonging to the estate of William Johnson, deceased. The slave had died of a long confinement in jail. Dr. Hay's wife was Grissell Johnson, daughter of William Johnson. William Johnson's wife is unknown.

Before 1738, Grissel had married Dr. Peter Hay who died circa 1767 in Williamsburg, VA. They apparently had no children. A William Johnson made oath that he was well acquainted with the testator [Peter Hay] and his relationship is unknown. She died before 1778 in York County - there is an appraisal of her estate 17 Aug 1778 in York Co.
