I do not find a relationship between this Dodson family and the other Dodsons living in Pittsylvania Co. However, the use of the name Fortunatus in both families is worth noting. The father of Samuel is said to have been Fortunatus Dodson, born Richmond Co VA about 1704 - his wife was Alice Goad. They married 9 Sep 1726 in Richmond Co. The elder Fortunatus was dead by 5 Jun 1738 when the Inventory of his estate was ordered, Richmond Co. His brother William had guardianship of Samuel.


The following deeds are quite likely not that of Samuel, but possibly a son or grandson.
