Richard was a minor in 1781 when his father's will was written. He and brothers Theodrick and Robert were to share in a 450 acre tract. Both Robert and Richard along with brothers James and Francis and sister Anne & her husband William Waddell are said to have gone to Williamson Co TN about 1805.

This would seem to be a different Richard Carter, likely his uncle.
Southside Virginia Genealogies states that this Richard, married Susanna Bigger, Prince Edward Co, 19 Dec 1772. Susanna, as administratrix, delivered the inventory of his estate 18 Feb 1796. She married 2nd David Powell on 17 Nov 1796 and he became guardian to her three younger children, Richard, Samuel, & Nancy. A court suit, Nov 1796, identified Richard's heirs as John, of age, and minors Thomas, Lemuel, William, Mary, Richard, Samuel, and Nancy.
