LDS Website, "Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel"
Justin initially emigrated in the David Evans Company. Later, he also participated in the Daniel Thompson Company in 1866 as a returning missionary, traveling in his brother Solomon's wagon. (Solomon was a teamster.) Justin served as that company's Chaplain. Wixom left the Thompson company at O'Fallon's Bluff in central Nebraska, as he was hired on to drive an ox team to Salt Lake for Joseph Slagle. It is uncertain which company he finished the trip in.

Justin was in the David Evans Company, along with his father, stepmother and brother. 54 wagons were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Kanesville, Iowa (present day Council Bluffs). There were 109 persons - they left 15 Jun 1850, arriving in mid-September.
Justin and his brother, Solomon Avery, are also listed in Daniel Thompson's larger company. Would appear that by now they had parted company with their father. About 500 individuals and 85 wagons were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Wyoming, Nebraska (the west bank of the Missouri River about 40 miles south of Omaha) They departed 24 Jul 1866 and arrived 29 Sep 1866.
Justin kept a diary of this second journey, preserved in the Wixom Family Papers. He did not travel the whole way with the company.
