Individual Details

Henry Clay/Claude Comstock

(Dec 1892 - )

With parents - in 1900, he was Henry Clay Comstock, b. Dec 1882.

1910 Census. Oklahoma, Mayes Co, Saline Twp. Hh 71
Harvey A. Comstock, age 58, married 30 years, b. MO
Emma, wife, age 50, had 9 children, 6 living, b. MO
Claude, son, age 18, b. MO
Iona I., daughter, age 9, b. OK
Harvey A., grandchild, age 4, b. Arkansas

Note: This Henry Clay, or Claude, Comstock, is not the Claud found in Scott Co, MO - that Claude was Claud Harris Comstock, son of Elijah Breckinridge Comstock. The Claud Comstock in Scott Co MO, also married a Myrtle - she was nee Hamilton. Neither is he a Claud Comstock, b. 1896, who is in the Barton Co MO in 1910 with his widowed mother Alice and brother Willard - that Claud is a son of Stephen A. D. Comstock and his wife Amanda Alice Conner.

Descendant has given him a birth of 7 May 1894, but that is in disagreement with the 1900 census when he was born in December of 1892 - his sister Dee was born in Feb of 1894. I feel sure the census is closer to being correct. His name given as Claude Alderson Comstock.

To date research hasn't proved that this connection is all the same man.

Married Myrtle E. Yarbrough - b. 29 May 1896, OK and died 15 May 1970, Denver, CO.
This person has him connected to Harvey & Emma Comstock in Mayes OK in 1910 - and I believe it probably is the right Henry Clay/Claude. Very messy database with multiple children

This database has multiple Henry Clay/Claud sons for Harvey Comstock and the data for all three including the Scott & Barton County Clauds has been attached to each.

Although the following seems to match the later census record - 2 children and a wife in 1917, his age is wrong.
5 June 1917. World War I Draft Registration. Sherman Twp, Sedgwick, Kansas
Claud Comstock, age 27, born 7 May 1890 in Nevada, MO, lived in Salina OK. He was a carpenter working for S. M. Cavill at Andale, Kansas. Had wife and 2 children. Claimed exemption to support his family.
Medium height, slender, brown hair, brown eyes.

The 1920 census has a Clay Comstock living in Adair, Mayes Co, OK. He is age 24, or born 1886. Descendant of Iona says that Claude, son of Harvey & Emma, was also called Clay - of course his name had been Henry Clay as a child.
