Ellis Moulder Learner of Marion Co, Indiana was born 19 Sep 1883, Howard Co, IN. His father was Benjamin F. Learner, born Howard County, now residing at Kokomo, Indiana. His permanent residence was at Kokomo and he followed the occupation of YMCA Secretary. He was to go abroad to return with 1 years and would be doing YMCA War Work in France, Great Britain, and Italy. He intended to depart from New York on the French Line upon receipt of his passport.
He was age 34, 5' 7 1/2" tall, light brown hair. Large mouth, pointed chin, medium forehead, small nose, oval face. He had gray eyes and wore spectacles.
Raymond J. Duke of Indianapolis, had known him personally for 8 years and knew these facts to be true.
Letter attached from the Military Intelligenece Divison of the War Department states they have no objections to his being sent for duty with the A. E. F. in connection with the YMCA.
The National War Work Council of the YMCA also certified that he was appointed a Secretary of the National War Work Council for service with the troops of the America Expeditionary Force in France and endorse his application to visit France, Great Britain & Italy. He was under contract for one year.
The local Draft Board for Howard Co stated he was not likely to be called for military service and was 4 Div A, as a married man with dependent Wife and children.

12 Sep 1918 World War I Draft Registration
Ellis Moulder Learner, lived at RR 7, Kokomo, Howard Co, IN. He was 34, born 19 Sep 1883. His present occupation was Secretary Overseas, his employer YMCA (Army), out of New York. His wife, Ferne Learner was his nearest relative. Medium height, slender build, grey eyes, brown hair.

Ellis apparently did serve in the War - there is a set of punch cards held by the University of Minnesota Special Collections - the Kautz Family YMCA Archives; digitized on FamilySearch.org. The card of Ellis Moulder Leaners gives his birth year as '83. Apparently served in both France and Germany. He must have been a member of the YMCA in Richmond IN - perhaps secretary.
