".....in an affidavit in his Revolutionary War pension file, in which he tells of his family's move to Pittsylvania County, VA, in 1766 when he was ten years old." (This would be from Stafford County, VA; his birth is recorded in the register for the Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA)

"CHARLES COLLIE (1756-1846) - Son of James and Ann (Cornwell) COLLIE"
"Charles Collie was married sometime in the 1780's, though the date and place are not known. His wife' s name was Agnes, as noted in later records, but her maiden name is not presently known. Over the course of around twenty years, they had seven or eight children, with the names of five listed in Charles's will (Will Book 2, p. 21) which was probated in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, in 1846. In it he also mentioned his "wife", though not by name, and a grandchild, son of a sixth child."
"In the tax records for 1847, his widow, listed as "Mrs. Agness Colley," continued paying 30 cents for the 120-acre-tract. The tax entry reported that this was her property by the will of "Charles Colley". That same 120-acre tract was sold on September 3, 1847, by all of Charles and Agnes Collie's children and a grandson, who were legatees of his will. This indicates that Agnes had died. Also, the next surviving tax record, for 1850, indicated that she was dead." Authors Source: Pittsylvania County "Land Books" for the years mentioned in the courthouse as of 2003.
