Claiborne Duval

The marriage bond of Claiborn Duval and Elizabeth Pope was dated 8 Jun 1780 in Louisa Co VA. Nathaniel Pope, father of Elizabeth stated she was of legal age and had his consent. Samuel DuVal also consented to the marriage. Witnesses included two of Claiborne's brothers, William and Philip DuVal.

Claiborne and Elizabeth moved to Danville in 1794 where her sister was living. Later they settled in Logan Co KY and are buried there. A picture in the DuVal book seems to indicate they were actually bured in Simpson Co which was formed from Logan. Their graves said to be surrounded by an iron fence, erected by their daughter, Mrs. Caroline Pope Price at whose home he died. The inscriptions read:
Sacred to the Memory of Major Clybourn Duval
Departed this life March the 7th - 1824
Aged 63 years, 7 months and 20 days
and
Sacred to the Memory of Elizabeth Duval
Departed this life Octobert 15 1815
Aged 55 years and 6 months

The list of their children is said to be from the old family Bible of a granddaughter [p.15 of DuVals of Kentucky from Virginia]
