Eli Spence

Eli's parents were Isham Spence and Nancy Redpath. Isham was born about 1792, died in the late 1850's and was the son of Burwell & Rebecca Spence. Nancy Redpath, b. ca 1798, d. 28 Feb 1859, was said to have been Cherokee. They are buried in the Spence Cemetery, Carroll Co VA. Burwell Spence, b. 1763 in Bedford Co VA and d. 23 Mar 1844, was a Revolutionary War soldier who settled in Carroll County very early. Burwell's 1st wife was named Rebecca; she died 15 Jul 1830. Burwell married (2) in Jul of 1831 to Nancy Thomas.
