FIELDING AND SARAH UTTERBACK
Fielding Utterback was the oldest of sixteen children, born to Benjamin Utterback (1784-1848) and Matilda Hanks (1788-1863). Fielding was born on 23 November 1809 in Woodford County, Kentucky. He was named for a very close friend of his father's Etherington Fielding of Woodford County, Kentucky. Fielding lived for some time in Boone County, Indiana, and this is where he married Sarah Terhune on 27 Oct 1833. Sarah was born 10 August 1814. Fielding and Sarah had nine children: Minerva Utterback (Boyd), born 19 January 1835; William Edward Utterback, born 1836; Martha Utterback (Williams), born 1838; Ellen Utterback, born 1840, died young; Addison Utterback, born 1843; Emaline Utterback (Rains), born 1845; Mary Adelaide Utterback, born 1847, died young; Oscar T. Utterback, born 1849; and Albert Utterback, born 1854, died young. After a brief stay in Story County, Iowa, Fielding brought his family to Mills County in 1856. He farmed until 1871, at which time he purchased a lumber business in the Hillsdale community. Fielding died 31 July 1881, and Sarah passed away 21 April 1896. They are both buried at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rawles Township of Mills County.
