From SC ABSTRACTS by Clara Lanley, Vol. 1
p.198 10 Mar 1725/26 Deed of Gift from Thos. Osgood Sr, wheelwright of Dorchester, Berkeley Co to son Thos. Jr., house carpenter. 6th lot in Dorechester & #57. Wit: William Wells, Charles Starnes, Gab. Peacock
p.160, Book I, p.537 28/29 Jan 1730 Marriage contract mentions tenements in alley occupied by Ebenezer Lyon, Wm Hamerton, Charles Starne, and John Wright.

Then there is a bill of sale dated 14 Apr 1731 in the Charleston County Courthouse Records. John Fogarty of Charleston sol 5 horses to his son-in-law Charles Starnes of Charleston, shoemaker.

In 1736, Charles Starns received a Royal Land Grant of 550 acres on the Black River; his five sons were listed.

Charles and Daniel were thought by many to be from the German Starnes, but most now believe they belong here. Charles has also been confused with the son of Peter Starns, also named Charles but he was born in 1737. The children alloted to Charles Stearns of Charleston by Van Wagenen were actually his grandchildren, son of Charles Jr. b. 1739. Peter's son Charles had no children.

Charles is said to be buried in the Cemetery of the Circular Church on Meeting St, Charleston.
