Temperance was married (1) to Jesse Leigh and had at least one daughter, Lucy Leigh. Her will also indicates a son William C. Leigh. Her maiden name was possibly Dupree.
ON 9 Feb 1827, Temperance & Joseph Pippen executed a marriage contract which guaranteed that Temperance's estate from Jesse Leigh would remain her property and under her control. She survived Joseph Pippen by several years, appearing as head of household in both the 1840 and 1850 census for Edgecombe Co. NC.
Temperance wrote her will 16 Dec 1852; proved Aug 1854 Court in Edgecombe Co. She left cash ot property to Mary F. Abrams, wife of Elijah Abrams & daughter of William R. Dupree, to Temperance DeShields, infant daughter of Martha DeShields, wife of Noah DeShields and daughter of William R. Dupree; to grandson & executor John H. Leigh; to granddaughters Martha A. Leigh and Temperance Hallell; and to son William C. Leigh.
