Mary Sherman, age 24, also lived with the Gambrells.
Next door were James & Mary Gambrell, no doubt Matthew's parents; he was 75, she was 76, both also born in SC.

In 1860, Matthew & Ruth were, of course, still married, as he died in 1862. On the same census page as Matthew & Ruth Gambrell at household 1067 is found Mary "Childress" age 70, Elizabeth Richardson, age 30, Perry age 12 and Fanny age 1 - no surname given for the children. This may very well be Perry Childers, born 1848.

W. P. Childer was age 21, a Farmer, and living with Ruth age 39. Children listed with no surname were C. C., a female age 14 [Charity Gambrell], C. A. a male age 11 [Charles Gambrell], and T. M. age 1 [Thomas Murphy Childers - their first child together].
Living next door was Mary Childer, age 72 - she appears to have aged only two years in the past ten. F. W. Richardson, an 11 year old female still lived with her [Fanny age 1 in 1860].

Apparently Ruth went back to South Carolina.

The Pendleton database on CD shows Ruth Murphey married to W. Perry Childers. Their children as:
1. Thomas Murphey Childers
2. Hester Loucinda Childers b. 31 Aug 1871 and d. 29 Dec 1920 at age 49. She married Charles Parkins Childrers and they had 5 children
3. Elizabeth Childers

Ruth is said buried at the Siloam Bapt Church Cemetery, Anderson Co - there is no picture of her stone and her name is given as Ruth Murphy Gambrell (she died as a Childers)
