Individual Details
Gabrella Shackelford Haden
(10 Sep 1846 - Oct 1936)
Gabrella and Mr. Rountree lived in a small cottage on the outskirts of Springfield when first married; he bought the corner lot next door and built a 13-room mansion for their 20th Anniversary. The location is 531 Mount Vernon St. The old house had grown from 3 rooms to 8 - they cut in half and moved part of it around on the back of the lot of the new house to face Main Street. The other half was moved to Walnut Street. In 1932, 4 generations of Rountrees were living in the house: Gabrella, daughter Edith, grandchildren Joel H. Jr. and Ruby, and Ruby's son Jack. Gabrella's mother-in-law lived with them in the early years.
