Ebenezer Starnes

(16 Feb 1741 - Abt 1793)

Is this the Ebenezer Starmes that married Elizabeth Young and lived in Georgia????
YES, according to Mrs. Sadie Hoke, descendant of Ebenezer & Anna Field Starnes.

Charles Patten confirms the fact that Ebenezer Starnes was married (1) to Elizabeth "Betty" Callahan [daughter of David Callahan] who died about 1778, and (2) to Elizabeth Young. Elizabeth said to have a will dated 28 Nov 1800 and proven 1 Oct 1802 - no location given.
During the Revolution, this Ebenezer said to have supplied rations for the troops. There are apperently some records that refer to him as Col. Starnes.

He is listed as paying taxes on 446 acres in Wilkes Co, no year given.

Ebenezer's Will is recorded 25 Mar 1793 in Wilkes Co GA, All of his children were likely underage at this time. A Charles Starnes was listed as helping the "orphans of Ebenezer in 1793", but no further particulars were given. I suspect this as being Ebenezer's older brother.

Ebenezer's children said to be:

By the 1st wife:
Elizabeth Callahan Starnes, b. ca 1776 and d. 31 Jan 1817 in Augusta, GA. She was married to William Pharis about 1793/1794.

Moses Starnes, b. 25 Feb 1777 and d. 16 Oct 1845. Married Nancy Graves abt 1800. Said to have died Copiah Co MS in 1845. Possibly born Edgefield Dist, SC. Said to have had a son named Ebenezer, b. 1804 in Amite Co MS.

By the 2nd wife:

John Starnes, b. ca 1783, m. a Ms. Ware and settled in TN. This may very well be the John Starnes living next door to L. H. Moseley in Williamson Co TN in 1850 [see later].

Daniel Starnes, b. maybe abt 1785; d. 7 Feb 1814; married Harriet Russell 18 Sep 1808 in Augusta, Richmond Co GA. She married again to Henry N. Coulter on 8 Nov 1815. One of their children said to be Judge Ebenezer Starnes, b. 1810.

Dr. Samuel Scott Starnes [b. 4 Jul 1786 and d. 1841] m. Nancy Matilda Wilborn, dau of Gen. James Wilborn; settled in Williamson Co TN. Served in the Confederate Army [doubtful, probably his son or nephew] Children: Gen. James Wilborn Starnes, Mary Adaline Starnes m. L. H. Moseley, Shubael Starnes d. unmarried, Rebecca m. Allison C. Treadwell, Katherine m. Peter G. Moseley, Parthenia m. William McCord, Samuel m. Ida Doak, John D. killed during the Civil War, Ebenezer killed during the Civil War.
Found in Williamson Co TN, 1850, p.287. Samuel Stearns, age 21 in the household of John & Jane Stearns. John is age 65 [b. 1785], Jane 55, both born in GA. Samuel was born in TN. It would seem this could be the Starnes who served in the Confederate Army, not a child of Ebenezer & Elizabeth Young that would have been born before 1800.
In the adjoining household in 1850 was the family of L. H. Moseley which also included 4 Starnes children and one of these, age 14, was named Samuel S. Starnes. L. H. Mosely was the husband of Mary Adeline Starnes, dau of Samuel Scott Starnes.
Williamson Co TN, p.286b, household 660: John Stearns, age 65, b. GA, Jane Stearnes, age 55, b. GA, Samuel, age 21 b. TN; A.C.W., female, age 16 b. TN.

Starnes 12, Ebenezer Starnes 10 [these 4 Starnes children are Mary A's younger siblings; probably both parents deceased] Joseph W. Cannon 20, Austin Cannon 18, James Cannon 14, Thos. N. Jones age 20, overseer.

Ebenezer Starnes, b. abt 1789, m. Winifred Harvey about 1822

Mary Starnes, b. 1790 and d. 14 Nov 1840,, m. 22 May 1808 in Augusta GA Rodham Tulloss, of TN. Said to have 11 children, two were Louisa b. 25 Mar 1812 d. unmarried; John Ebenezer Tulloss b. 30 Nov 1817, m. Sarah Scott 1840. I found a Tulloss family in Williamson Co TN in 1850 - more research needed.
