Individual Details
Richard Milton Harmon
(7 Oct 1824 - 28 Nov 1899)
Richard is the ancestor of Thomas C. Harmon. Richard married (1) 6 Jun 1847 in Marion Co IN to Martha Jane Overley. (2) Emily Jane Garr, 18 May 1851, Carrol Co IL [Emily was a sister to Susanna Garr, wife of John Jackson, Richard's nephew and son of Alexus and Mary (Harmon) Jackson, There parents were Michael & Sarah Garr, living with the Jacksons in 1860 in Missouri] (3) Melvina Wright Hardin, widow of Eli Hardin, on 1 Mar 1881, Daviess Co MO.
I have not found the family in 1850. Although Richard seems to be at home with his parents - Martha having died.
1860 Census. Jefferson Twp, Daviess Co, MO, Gallatin P.O. Hh 10 Enumerator has name as "Hans/Ham"
Richard "Hans", age 36, farmer, b. IN as was everyone in the household
Emily, age 30.
Jacob 12, Sarah 7, and Charles age 4.
Strangely enough listed in the next family - that of John Jackson - is a Susan "Ham" age two, born Missouri. Richard's father is on the next page with the surname "Ham"
Note: another Harmon researcher sent me the information that John Jackson was the son of Mary Harmon & Alexus Jackson. The two-year-old Susan "Ham" was indeed another child of Richard and Emily. Perhaps she was visiting her relatives on the day the enumerator came by!
