George Payne's will is in Goochland DB 4, p.484. Dated 3 Dec 1744, probate 15 Jan 1745. Wife Mary, plantation, and at her death to son John with 200 acres on head branches of Stoney Creek and Bird branch. Son Josias. Son George. Granddaughter, Agness Payne, grandsons, Augustine & Jesse Payne. To sons Josias & George & grandson Augustine - 800 acres on branches of the Little Bird. Son George - 400 acres on Licking Hole Crk. Exec: Sons, Josias, George & John Payne. Wit: Wm. Miller, Charles Jordan, James Bates.

The will appears to match the land patented by George. John received the 200 acres on Stoney Creek [patent of 10 Jan 1735]. Josias & George & grandson Augustine - probably a son of deceased son Robert - were to divided the 800 acre patent on the Byrd [patent dated 22 Sep 1739]. George also received 400 acres on Lickinghole, either of the first two early patents in 1729 and 1731. The remaining patent of 400 acres was the home plantation left to wife Mary, then to descend to John.
