Deed of Edmund King has dower release from wife Elizabeth.

Here is what I've discovered about Edmund King:

20 Nov 1753 Charles Talbot of Lunenburgh and Drusillar his wife to Robert King of Albermarl Co. 15#'s 150 acres both sides Straitston Creek …on Isaac Alen, crossing the Crick ..Robert Handcocks ..Wit: Thos. Dillard Junr, Wm Thomas, Robt Sheffell

Halifax Will Book 0 [Zero[; p.73
14 Jun 1757 Inventory of Robert King returned by Mary King, Adm. Rec. 16 Jun 1747
p.76 Sale of Estate of Robert King netted 216.15.8

From Halifax Plea Book 2, is some interesting information about the family of Edmund King:
May 19, 1757
Certificate granted Mary King for letters of admin of estate of Robert King, dec’d. James Dillard & George Watkins her securities.
Thomas Dillard, Gent, Samuel Parks, James Collings, Charles Dean to appraise estate of Robert King dec’d
Oct 21, 1757
Ordered that Mary King, admin of Robert King dec’d pay John Lankford for 3 days attendance as witness for her to prove a bill of sale from Samuel Harris to her dec’d husband. [Found in Halifax DB 1, p.320 28 Feb 1757 Samuel Harris of Halifax to Robert King for 198.13.5 three slaves Bob, York, & Lucy, 3 horses, 1 mare & foal, 36 head of cattle, 2 feather beds & furniture. Wit: Thomas Harris, William Cornelius, John Langford.]
James Dillard assigned guardian to Edmund King, orphan of Robert King, dec’d to prosecute action of detinue against Mary King, admin of Robert King, dec’d.
[So Robert King, Surveyor of the road to Thomas's Ferry was the father of Edmund. Edmund not yet 21 in 1757, so he was born after 1736. Look what happens next - Edmund sues his own mother over a horse.]
March Ct 1758
Edmund King by James Dillard his Guardian vs. Mary King admx of Robert King on a petition of Trover & conversion for a bay gelding at the price of 3p. Deft not appearing, ordered that the Plt recover against the Deft the afd gelding.
Ordered that Edmund King pay James Collins for 4 days attendance as a witness for him against Mary King admx of Robt King
["Trover" is possession of property that has been promised to another or some such. Anyway, Mary King didn't contest and Edmund got his horse - apparently for the 3 pence. Over the next few years Mary appeared in court a lot - either trying to recover money owed her husband or being sued for his debts.]

Pittsylvania Co Va Court Records Book 1 1767-1772
26 Feb 1768 Deed from William Collins to Edmond King was acknowledged and Ordered recorded.

On 9 Jun 1770, Harmon King entered 400 acres adj Edmond Kings line & Will Chicks line on branches of Straight Stone Creek.

23 Aug 1770. Francis Luck was bondsman for the marriage of Edmund King and Mary Thomas; she signed for herself.

Pittsylvania DB 6, p.369 18 Feb 1782 Edmund King & Elizabeth his wife of Halifax Co to Joseph West for 170#'s. 150 acres in Pittsylvania Co on both sides of great Straight Stone Creek. On ___ Allen's Old Line now Wm Cheeks, crossing the creek.

Wit: John Vaughan, Wm Cheek, John Pemberton. Proved by witnesses 20 Aug 1782.
[Edmund married to an Elizabeth by February of 1782. Is this land on Straightstone part of Mary Thomas' dower? George Thomas owned land in that area.]
Pittsylvania DB 7
p.399 To James Bates, Ed Hunt and Edmund King or any two Justices of Halifax Co. William Vaughan by Indenture conveyed to John Wadlington a tract in Pittsy Co of 300 acres. Frances Vaughan, wife of William cannot travel. Please examine her.
21 Feb 1785 – Returned & ordered recorded

21 Sep 1786 Halifax DB 13, p.485 Henry Dillian (Dilling), Edmund King of Halifax, William Thomas of Pittsylvania County to Joseph Echols of Halifax for £820 to them in hand paid according to their several agreement, they have jointly sold to sd Joseph Eckhols, 4 tracts in Halifax and on Stanton River, mostly adjoining the Long Island Sluce, containing about 800 acres in the whole "being Grant by patent just two of which to the said William Thomas and one to Abram Eckhols" which are bounded as per general record may appear, except about 8 acres at the upper end, "adj all which tracts being together" are bounded by Stanton River in sd Joseph Echol's line, John Barbers line, Jonadab Georges line, Jones, John Word, Luck's line, Henry Dilling, the mouth of a Branch at the Long Island Ford. Signed: Henry Dilling, Edmd King, Wm Thomas. Rec. 21 Sep 1786. Elizabeth, wife of sd Edmund King, relinquished her right of dower.
[So here it is, William did indeed have two tracts on the Staunton/Stanton River all these years. The ferry was on the Long Island Ford. One and the same. And Mary Thomas has died and Edmund has remarried.]

Traditionally, Edmund married also Elizabeth Woodson, sister to Mary. This isn't proved and is doubtful. Certainly he did have a wife named Elizabeth.
