In 1720, John Randolph of York Co VA transferred to Thomas Moreton, Joseph Moreton, and John Moreton, of Henrico, planters, 436 acres, S side of white oak swamp to be divided: Thomas, 212 acres next to Chickahominy swamp; Joseph 112 acres next adjoining; the remaining 112 to John. Land which had descended to John Randolph from his father William Randolph, dec'd. In the will of Capt. William Randolph, 1713, his sons John & Richard were given three tracts bought of John Woodson, Sam Knibbs & John Moreton, 900 acres on the Chickahominy - Richard the upper part, and John the lower part. [Obviously part of this was the 200 acres John Morton had transferred to William Randolph in 1700.]

1725. Joseph Morton of Varina Parish sold Robert Spear, 112 acres on the Chickahominy and John Ferris line and Thomas Morton's line. [In 1721, John Morton had sold 100 acres to John Ferris.]

25 May 1734 Prince George Co; 225 acres, south side Appomattox between his own land, Prides, and Mayo's lines PB 15, p.224
A grant to Joseph Watson on 17 Mar 1736, Amelia Co, was 121 acres, south side Appomattox, between the lines of Wm. Mayo, Eliza. Moreton, Joseph Morton. Watson was of Henrico. The description began at Fugua etc. Bertly's corner; Joseph Moreton's corner; Wm Mayo's line, David Lisle's corner, the Appomattox River. PB 17, p.294
A grant to Thomas Moreton [cannot be Joseph's brother as he was dec'd] on 9 Feb 1737, Amelia Co, was for 126 acres between William Fuqua's and William Mayo's lines. The description said begin Mayo's line at Joseph Watson's corner, Robert Fuqua's line. PB 17, p.509

Amelia Co was formed out of Prince George & Brunswick in 1734 - the above are obviously all in the same area.

Another grant to Joseph Moreton:
9 Feb 1737 1072 acres, Amelia Co. Land, both sides of Sandy River., PB 17, p.478 [this will eventually become Pittsylvania Co and his sons will inherit]

Joseph moved to Amelia Co and by 1744 lived in Brunswick Co in what would become Lunenburg.
1744, Amelia DB 2, p.110: Joseph Morton Sr of Brunswick to Thomas Morton of Amelia, 353 acres on Sandy River in Amelia Co.
1748, DB 1, p.367 Joseph Morton, 460 acres, his homeplace, to Thomas Nash in Lunenburg Co.

15 Feb 1744/45 Joseph Morton Sr of Brunswick Co to Thomas Morton, 225 acres in Amelia Co on fork of lower fork of Sandy River begin at said Joseph Morton's old line, crossing fork of river to Daniel Hamlin's line, part of a 353 acre tract.
[This Thomas may be a son of John Jr. and nephew of Joseph]


PLEA BOOK 1 of Halifax Co VA had the following: 20 Mar 1753 Will of Joseph Morton Sr presented by Joseph Morton Jr & proved by Thomas Morton.
Mentioned wife Elizabeth. Daughters: Jane Royal, Martha, and Ann. Son John, 400 acres on Sandy River bought of Joseph Cloud; Son Joseph 400 acres on Sandy River including the home place; son Jehu 400 acres on Sandy River. Execr: Capt. Charles Anderson, Joseph Morton Jr., wife and son John.
Wit: Thomas Morton, Sam Morton, Joseph Morton Jr.
[The Thomas who witnessed may be his nephew, son of John Jr.]

P.46/167 [Court held 18 Sep 1753] An inventory and appraisement of the estate of Joseph Morton, dec'd was returned and ordered recorded.

Joseph Morton Jr who witnessed, may be a nephew rather than a son.
