Joseph Dodson
(21 Feb 1726/27 - Bef 18 Nov 1773)
Joseph moved with his father to Fauquier Co area about 1751 when he was named as a taxpayer, living in the Elk Run vicity. In 1759, his father gave him a tract of land adjoining Thomas Dodson & Timothy Stamps. He married first Anne ??? and second Martha "Patty" ??? who may have been the mother of the youngest child. Joseph and Anne moved to Halifax in Sept of 1766.

....The first meetinghouse was erected about two miles northeast of the present site on land deeded by Joseph Dodson (Fauquier Co Deed Book 2, p.368) ...the plot contained one acre lying on Barker's Branch ....23rd day of September, 1765. According to the deed the land included "the new meeting house already partly built."

Joseph's will was dated 12 Apr 1773 and recorded 18 Nov 1773 in Halifax Co VA. He left land to "beloved wife" and then to son Joseph; land to sons Caleb, Joshua and Elias. A land sale just prior to his death is said to have revealed his wife's name to be Patty; this is the only indication of a second wife.
