Timothy Stamps

Married Leah Wilson 19 Dec 1803, Pittsylvania Co VA. She was the daughter of John Wilson who gave his consent. He married a 2nd time - The Hull papers state that she was Polly Carter, widow of William Carter and they married 30 Dec 1811. Polly had a daughter Elizabeth by William Carter.

The Diary of Rev. Elias Dodson states that Timothy Stamps also married the widow Mary Hobson sometime after 1860, but she did not survive him.

Timothy Stamps lived next to his brother William & Thomas, between Ringgold and Sutherlin. Their brother John Jr was just over the stateline in Caswell Co NC.

1820 Census, Pittsylvania Co VA. Timothy & spouse were 26-45. 3 sons under 10. 2 daughter 10-16. 8 slaves.

1830 Census. Timothy age 50-60. Wife 40-50. 1 son 5-10, 1 son 10-15, 1son 15-20. 16 slaves.

Timothy is found living alone in the 1850 Census, age 72. Enumerated between Jackson Carter, age 34 and family and Spiers & Lydia Walters [his sister].

The Will of Timothy Stamps is dated 19 Jan 1860. He left slaves to the children of his deceased daughters Ann Conway and Jane Wilcox. [There is no mention of daughter Martha who may have died without issue.] The rest of his property to be divided in three equal parts among sons John H., Timothy H., and the children of his deceased son Benjamin H. [William & Drucilla]. The will was proved 21 Oct 1867 in Pittsylvania Co.

31 Oct 1867. T. H. Stamps made bond for the administration of the will in which Timothy H. Stamps was named Executor. Secuity, Jno. Brightwell
