Opal Standard Comstock, 88, of Van Buren, formerly of Kibler, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in a local hospital.
Opal Comstock, died at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after the truck she was driving was struck by a vehicle while turning off of U.S. 59.
The accident happened in the 10000 block of U.S. 59 North, about one mile north of Cedarville, just after 4 p.m.
Comstock was traveling north on U.S. 59 in a 1994 Ford F-150 pickup when she turned into the path of a smaller pickup driven by Jimmy Barber, 27, of Cedarville. Comstock apparently was turning into a residence at the time of the accident.
Barber reportedly was driving south in a 1995 Isuzu pickup with a 16-foot flatbed trailer hauling two all-terrain vehicles when the accident happened.
Barber's pickup struck Comstock's vehicle on the right side door, Mulac said.
Comstock was first transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital where officials reported that her condition did not appear to be life-threatening, Mulac said.
She was later transported to St. Edward, where tests showed she was suffering from several internal injuries, Mulac said. She was later pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
She was the widow of Edward Den Comstock and a member of the Independence Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral was 10 a.m. Thursday at Independence Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Hall Cemetery near Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by one daughter, Nelda Lee Barela of La Habra, Calif.; one son, Donald Ray Comstock of Van Buren; one sister, Carmen Young of Kibler; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ben Tensley, Timmy Brown, Jack Wiley and Chris, Andy and Dan Comstock.
