Jacob Hite
(1719 - 1776)
Jacob Hite lived in what is now Jefferson Co WV, which until 1772 was a part of Frederick Co. In 1772 this place in Frederick became part of Berkeley Co & Jacob wanted his settlement near Leetown, made the county seat. Martinsburg was instead designated and Hite moved to South Carolina. He and his family were murdered by Indians not long after reaching South Carolina.
