Benjamin Comfort

(Bef 17 Mar 1757 - 2 Jul 1814)

Also found living in Carroll Co MS in 1850, is Joseph W. Comfort, age 47, born NY - some of his children born In Tennessee, others in Mississippi. He is a third brother.

Benjamin Comfort's parents were John Comfort, b. ca 1725,, and Annatje Maul, b. in Orange Co NY. The information on the family states that the daughters in the family were baptized at the Montgomery Reformed Dutch Church in Orange Co NY, but the sons were baptized at Goodwill Presbyterian Church. John Comfort paid taxes in Montgomery Twp, Orange Co from 1768 to 1778. It is believed that John and his brother William who married Elizabeth Maul served in the 4th Regt, Ulster Co Militia during the Revolution. John Comfort's will was dated 3 Nov 1794, proved 30 Oct 1795. He left his farm to the youngest son Daniel, and distributed six lots among his other sons. The Comfort immigrant was possibly Robert, found in Kingston RI in the 1680's - his son Benjamin was the father of John, b. ca 1725.

Benjamin married Elizabeth Youngblood, 1780, Orange Co, NY, their children included:
John B., born about 1782
Daniel who moved to Kentucky and Mississippi
Benjamin, b. 1786
Catherine b. 1788
David, b. 1790
William, who moved to Kentucky and married Eleanor Whitsitt whose mother was Emily Haden - they moved to Mississippi to live near his brother Daniel
Samuel, b. 1797, d. 1870, still in Orange Co NY
Absalom, b. 1799
Joseph W., b 1802, who also moved to Mississippi - he apparently did not stop over in Kentucky as did his brothers Daniel & William.
