Individual Details

I have not been able to find any record for a second wife of William Whitsitt. Yet there was this William C. Whitsett in neighboring Barren Co. The "Annals of a Scotch-Irish Family" about the Whitsitts assigns this William C. as a child of William & Milly Whitsitt. However, the estate records of Milly's father give only three daughters as heirs of Milly, as she had predeceased her father. The daughters were born between 1800 and 1805 - William C. not until 1812. It's been suggested but I have found no proof that the "C" stood for Crawford - a surname that isn't in the Whitsitt family. Deed records around the early 1820's indicate no spouse for William Whitsitt. There is no marriage record in Logan Co for William Whitsitt except for his marriage to Milly Haden. The only reasonable explanation seems to be that he took a second wife marrying her somewhere other than Logan Co, had a son, and was widowed a 2nd time, or divorced her. Or that the son was born out of wedlock.
