He was a justice of the peace for Albemarle Co 1745-46. John patented 1012 acres, both sides of the Otter river in 1754. The proclamation of 1763, allowed bounty lands to soldeiers and John Anthony claimed the pay of captain of a company of rangers raised by order of the governor. His 2nd patent was for 674 acres at the head of Ivy and Blackwater Crks in 1759.
